Fast, Pray, and Act With Workers Fighting Human Trafficking

Today, December 18, 23 Indian workers who are fighting to enforce human trafficking laws in this country will begin a fast in the Cass County jail, where they are being held by Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials. They will be joined by Congressman Keith Ellison and 29 religious leaders and clergy, who will demand that ICE release these workers and that the DOJ prosecute the traffickers. Tell Wayzata Investment Partners that Workers Still Matter!

Join Workers Interfaith Network and the United Steelworkers on Friday, September 5 at noon to send a message to Wayzata Investment Partners. The action will take place at 701 Lake Street East in Wayzata.

This local private equity group recently purchased a paper pulp mill in Oregon that employs 100 workers.  After they bought the mill, Wayzata Investment Partners fired workers and informed them that they could reapply for their old jobs if they were willing to take pay cuts of 12%-28%. Work with WIN to Pass The Employee Free Choice Act!

Workers Interfaith Network is gearing up to work with others in the community to pass the Employee Free Choice Act, or EFCA. EFCA would make it easier for workers who want to work collectively to improve their workplaces to form unions. The legislation would also make it harder for employers to engage in hardball tactics meant to intimidate workers who want to organize. Unfortunately, the US Chamber of Commerce, Wal Mart, and other powerful corporate interests are trying to keep EFCA from becoming law. They plan to work hard to block EFCA.
