Cafeteria Workers Need You to Call for Worker Justice

This summer, the State of Minnesota brought a new management company in to run its cafeterias. The result? More than a dozen workers who belonged to UNITE HERE lost living wage jobs that provided decent health and retirement security. The company hired new part-time workers at much lower wages with no benefits. Many of these workers have decades of experience working in the cafeteria. Now, many of them have very few options for future work.

Workers who lost their jobs continue to picket in front of the Department of Transportation Building on John Ireland Blvd. every day from 11-1. WIN will join workers every Tuesday until their jobs, wages, and benefits, are restored.

In addition to joining us on the picket line, please call Bruce Taher, the owner of the new management company, at 952-945-0505. Ask him to rehire these workers, restore their benefits, and restore a relationship with the union they belonged to!

Join Workers from Dakota Premium This Cinco De Mayo!

Workers Interfaith Network stood in solidarity with workers at the Dakota Premium meat packing plant when they first began their campaign to build a union at their plant. This summer, workers at Dakota Premium will renegotiate their contract, and they need the support of the community to win real improvements at the bargaining table. Please join United Food and Commercial Workers Local 789′s delegation in the Cinco De Mayo parade in West St. Paul.  Gather at 266 Hardman Avenue North in South St. Paul at 9 a.m. for a light breakfast and then carpool to the parade. Free t-shirts for all marchers!
