Cafeteria Workers Need You to Call for Worker Justice

This summer, the State of Minnesota brought a new management company in to run its cafeterias. The result? More than a dozen workers who belonged to UNITE HERE lost living wage jobs that provided decent health and retirement security. The company hired new part-time workers at much lower wages with no benefits. Many of these workers have decades of experience working in the cafeteria. Now, many of them have very few options for future work.

Workers who lost their jobs continue to picket in front of the Department of Transportation Building on John Ireland Blvd. every day from 11-1. WIN will join workers every Tuesday until their jobs, wages, and benefits, are restored.

In addition to joining us on the picket line, please call Bruce Taher, the owner of the new management company, at 952-945-0505. Ask him to rehire these workers, restore their benefits, and restore a relationship with the union they belonged to!

On the I-35 Tragedy

Workers Interfaith Network shares prayers for those injured and killed as a result of the tragic collapse of the I-35W bridge.

We pray in a special way with all workers injured and possibly killed in the calamity. And we pray in thanksgiving for all of the workers who served and continue to serve as first responders and caregivers, and for all workers who labored to hold the community together in a time of tragedy. They are heroes doing God’s work in the world.

Finally, we pray in thanksgiving for the role we know that workers will play in carrying our community through this difficult time. We pray in thanksgiving for the workers who will carry our community on public transit around this wounded place in the city. We pray in thanksgiving for those who will rebuild this place. And we pray in thanksgiving for those who will help members of our community heal and mourn.
