En los últimos 6 meses los trabajadores se han unido con el Centro Interfé de Justicia Laboral para luchar por mejores condiciones de trabajo por todas las Ciudades Gemelas. Las victorias que se han ganado son resultado de las estrategias tomadas por los trabajadores, el trabajo organizativo y el tomar acción directa unidos para confrontar los problemas que enfrentan muchos trabajadores. Victory Corner

Over the past 6 months workers have joined together at the Interfaith Center for Workers Justice to fight for improvements in working conditions across the Twin Cities. The victories we have won are the result of workers strategizing, organizing, and taking direct action together to confront issues being faced by many workers. Through this work, we have also won a bigger victory- we have begun to develop leadership and build power amongst low-wage workers across the Twin Cities as a first step in creating long lasting changes that benefit all workers! Workers From Best Brands Corp Stand Up!

On Sept. 10, 2007 Best Brands Corp. a bakery in Eagan, MN began laying off around 60-80 workers with good wages and benefits, including affordable health care. The bakery promptly replaced the workers through temporary agencies, with new workers earning a fraction of the wage with no benefits whatsoever.

The lay-offs took place in the context of a controversial new proposal from the White House regarding No Match letters sent by Social Administration. The letters, sent to workers whose names and numbers do not match in their database, are used for informational purposes only. Employers are not allowed to use them to enforce immigration law under current policy. They would have been required to do so under new proposals. Though the company did not receive any No Match letters, Best Brands Corp. instituted their own form of No Match, taking advantage of the climate of fear within the immigrant community to slash wages and benefits.
